New Riding Opportunities at the Foot of Mount Fuji
A new trail network at Grinpa introduces beginners and families to mountain biking in one of Japan’s most iconic landscapes.
Set on the southern slopes of Mount Fuji, Grinpa Amusement Park has expanded its outdoor attractions with the addition of Fujiyama Trail, a purpose-built mountain bike trail network designed to welcome beginners, families, and recreational riders.
The new network offers visitors an opportunity to experience mountain biking in a unique natural setting, combining accessible trails with spectacular views of Japan’s highest peak.
A Trail Designed for Everyone
At the heart of Fujiyama Trail is a 3.5-kilometre loop featuring a dedicated climbing trail that gradually leads riders to the highest point before returning via a flowing descent. Rather than separating the climb and the downhill, the route encourages riders to experience the trail as a complete journey through the surrounding landscape.
As the trail winds through the forest, riders are treated to views of Mount Fuji and pass alongside an ancient volcanic crater, making the scenery as much a part of the experience as the riding itself.
Designed with gentle gradients and predictable corners, the trail provides an approachable introduction to mountain biking while allowing riders to build confidence on natural terrain.
Building Skills and Confidence
Fujiyama Trail also includes a dedicated skills area where beginners can practise fundamental riding techniques before venturing onto the main loop. A paved riding circuit further broadens accessibility, offering another space for younger riders and those new to cycling off-road.
These facilities create an environment where visitors can develop their skills at their own pace before exploring the longer trail.
Working With the Landscape
Constructed near the volcanic slopes of Mount Fuji, the trail follows the natural contours of the terrain and makes use of the area’s distinctive landscape. Rather than dramatically reshaping the hillside, the route has been designed to work with the existing environment, giving riders an experience that reflects the character of the mountain itself.
The project was completed over a three-month construction period and opened in spring 2025, adding mountain biking to Grinpa’s growing range of outdoor activities.
A New Way to Experience Mount Fuji
For many visitors, Mount Fuji is experienced through sightseeing, hiking or nearby attractions. Fujiyama Trail offers another way to explore the area—by bike.
By combining accessible trail design with one of Japan’s most recognisable landscapes, Grinpa has created an experience that encourages more people to discover mountain biking, whether it’s their first ride on dirt or simply another way to enjoy the outdoors.
As mountain biking continues to grow across Japan, projects like Fujiyama Trail show how well-designed beginner-friendly trails can help introduce new riders to the sport while making the most of the country’s remarkable natural landscapes.
