Palcall Tsumagoi Continues
to Expand Its MTB Trail Network

Palcall Tsumagoi is continuing to build on the momentum from the opening of its Magic Carpet MTB Dojo, with another busy off-season focused on improving the riding experience across the mountain.

Since the snow melted in May, work has centred on expanding beginner-friendly terrain while preparing the park for future trail development. The original Magic Carpet line has been re-graded to provide a smoother, more enjoyable progression for new riders, while a second line has been added alongside it. A dedicated jump line is also planned as the next stage of development.

The Magic Carpet MTB Dojo remains one of the most important additions to the park, providing a dedicated space where beginners can develop essential skills in a relaxed environment before progressing onto the mountain. By offering a purpose-built learning area serviced by the Magic Carpet lift, Palcall continues to make mountain biking more accessible to first-time riders, families and those looking to build confidence before tackling longer descents.

Higher on the mountain, another significant project has now been completed. A new 420-metre beginner loop has been built around the summit gondola area, giving less experienced riders an opportunity to enjoy the upper mountain immediately after arriving at the top station. With the new café now open at the summit, the loop creates another welcoming destination for riders who previously had limited options beyond returning directly down the mountain.

Trail work is also progressing towards The Ōzasa Wayb entry, allowing the upper section to be completed before attention shifts to the Asama #42 area. Riders will notice this section is currently marked as temporarily closed while renovation and rejuvenation work takes place, with improvements designed to enhance the trail for future seasons.

Beyond the trail network, work will soon move into what the trail crew refers to as the “Black Shed” area, signalling that development continues well beyond what visitors currently see on the trail map.

Rather than simply maintaining existing trails, Palcall Tsumagoi continues to invest in creating a mountain bike park that caters to every level of rider. From first-time visitors taking their first turns in the Magic Carpet MTB Dojo to riders exploring new terrain at the summit, each new addition reflects the park’s ongoing commitment to growing mountain biking in Japan.
